Short history of the company:
The Halcyon Line was founded in Rotterdam in 1920 as a freight shipping company. They maintained more or less regular services on  the La Plata river, in  the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea.
The first ship was the 'Stad Kampen'. The names of the ships mostly started with 'Stad' or had the suffix 'burg'. During World War II the company lost 8 out of 12 ships, and the company  still existed after the war. In 1960 the 'New Halcyon Line' was founded as a sister-company. The end of the Halcyon Lijn came in 1972 when the big shareholder, Baron von Thyssen Bornemisza, sold the company to Greek ship-owners.
