A Norddeich Radio colleague
of mine, today still active as ham radio DL1BHM, had the following experience
at Norddeich Radio service:
A German ship close to Cape
Town announced a radio link call on short-wave 16 MHz DAJ.
The crew member on board
was on his first voyage, came from the Hessian County, and wanted to speak
with his wife on the phone. Therefore, this was also absolutely a new experience
for the wife ashore. The connection was not very good at the beginning
so that my colleague informed the wife ashore that the ship was far away
close to Africa.
After the radio call was
handled quite well, the happy wife ashore said to her partner on board:
„... incidentally
the black man a moment ago, that spoke an excellent German........ “
